The HostBridge Patent
U.S. Patent No. 6,981,257 B2
On December 27, 2005, HostBridge was awarded U.S. Patent No. 6,981,257 B2 as a “system, method and apparatus to facilitate the invocation of existing CICS BMS transactions and deliver the executed transaction output to a requesting application as a standardized XML document.” The broad objectives of the patent are to:
- Allow enterprises to integrate CICS transactions into other applications
- Facilitate communication between CICS and non-CICS platforms and applications
- Provide for XML-based communication between CICS transactions and client applications without CICS application, transaction, or system modification.
The patent covers any integration solution that (a) supports access to CICS BMS applications, (b) relies on a CICS-based mechanism to intercept the flow of terminal input to and output from the application, and (c) uses XML to express the application’s output. In practical terms, the patent demonstrates that HostBridge has been a visionary and pioneer in the area of CICS application integration. We know this is important to our current customers; we hope it’s important to our prospective customers too. Second, it ensures that our customers have unimpeded access to best-of-breed CICS integration technology.
